How can I tell if my laptop keyboard controller is working?

I get no error in bios but the Asus UL Series Keyboard is dead. Very first of all some of it packed up and now it all has. In windows unit manager underneath ‘ketboards’ it exhibits ‘HID keyboard device’. Does this mean the keyboard controller is operating and the keyboard is defective or not? Thanks in advance for any assist.
No the keyboard doesn’t work at all at any stage. Theres no caps gentle etc. I am just attempting to figure out weather its the controller or Asus Keyboard. If its the controller then sick conserve the ￡40 for a keyboard to put in the direction of a new mobo.
